Job Description:
The IT Technician position performs intermediate to advanced
technical and professional planning work for the Broward
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), with primary
responsibility in the following areas: data services and
Information Technology (IT). Staff in this role are expected to
work with considerable independence within their area of
responsibility, with minimal supervision, and may occasionally
handle unusually difficult or sensitive matters. We are looking for
an outstanding candidate with an interest and significant
experience in the professional areas noted above. The ideal
candidate is an experienced professional with a strong background
in Information Technology (IT) who can provide IT support and
service to the MPO and its team members. The candidate should be
able to inspect and repair technology, troubleshoot servers,
computer hardware and equipment, connections, and other technical
problems. The candidate should also be able to assist the
organization with the installation and setup of new systems, such
as networks, IPs, and other components. The MPO operates on the
Office 365 platform with file storage managed through SharePoint
and OneDrive, therefore, the candidate should possess extensive
knowledge of the Office 365 administration platform. CompTIA A+,
CompTIA Network+, and/or CompTIA Security+ certifications are
recommended. Preference will be given to candidates who have
entry-level website management and coding experience. The MPO
provides essential multimodal transportation planning services to
over 30 municipalities and Broward County, while also working with
partners in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties to plan for the
Southeast Florida region. The thriving region is home to almost six
million residents, with almost two million in Broward County alone,
and another two million anticipated to call Southeast Florida home
in the next 20 years. Duties & Responsibilities Contributes to and
supports all aspects of the organization's IT including file
servers, user workstations, software packages, telephone systems,
MPO Board Room Audio/Visual equipment, and serves as the project
manager for the MPO's IT consultant. Manages the organization's
Geographic Information System (GIS) platform including ArcGIS
Server and ArcGIS Enterprise deployments, and ArcGIS Online.
Provides help desk support related to hardware and software
packages for MPO staff. Provides support for planning, scheduling,
coordinating, implementing, and maintaining planning programs or
systems, related to GIS and IT. Manages the organization's Office
365 environment including SharePoint and OneDrive Maintains and
tracks IT inventory Assists in preparation of IT budget for
assigned MPO program, system, or section. Prepares MPO staff
reports for MPO Board and Committee meetings and public hearings.
Performs all other related duties as required. Education &
Experience A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information
Technology and Information Systems, Systems & Network
Administration, or related field are recommended, however,
equivalent direct work experience may be substituted for this
preference. IT management competency including knowledge of
hardware and software management and maintenance. Experience in the
following is recommended: Active Directory, Microsoft Office 365
(including SharePoint and OneDrive), Multifunction Printers,
Windows File Server, Windows OS Installation. Strong understanding
of hardware, software, and network troubleshooting. Proficiency in
ArcGIS ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro, and related ArcGIS extensions.
Knowledge of the administration of ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS
Online is preferred. Website management experience is preferred.
Programming language competency in Python, Java, and other
languages is preferred. Any equivalent combination of relevant
training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge,
skills, and abilitiesfor this job, which may serve as a substitute
at the discretion of the MPO. Licenses and/or Certificates CompTIA
A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+ certifications recommended.
Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida
Driver's License. Other qualifications as appropriate or ability to
learn. Working Conditions This job operates in both a professional
office environment, outdoor field conditions at job sites and
telework. The noise level in the office work environment is usually
quiet to moderate but the field environment can include high
levelsof noise where hearing and other protective devices may be
required. The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to talk, stand; walk, use hands and
fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The
employee must be able to walk over uneven terrain, surfaces, and
other conditions normally associated with a construction job site
while wearing appropriate safety gear. The required field work
requires standing and walking for extended times in outdoor
conditions of south Florida, which include high temperature and
humidity conditions. This is moderate work requiring the exertion
of 25 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 35 pounds of force
frequently. The work requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to
operate computer equipment and for reviewing, checking, preparing,
and maintaining written and electronic documents. The physical
demands described here are representative of those that must be met
by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of
