The Sales Associate Trainee will have responsibility to identify and cultivate opportunities with new prospects for National Sales under the guidance of a Director of Business Development (DBD) within their assigned territory. In this 18-24 month program, the Sales Associate Trainee will be accountable for gaining the knowledge and skills required to educate and develop prospects regarding Ryder's value proposition and services offered (Full Service Lease, On-Demand Maintenance, Lease Financing, Dedicated Transportation Services and Integrated Logistics) while effectively using the Ryder Sales Process to help advance the sale. The incumbent will learn how to prepare and deliver solutions proposals that meet the identified needs of and prospects. The Sales Associate Trainee will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with local sales, inside sales, operations and asset management to maximize their learning and achieve desired sales results. Upon successful completion of this program (meeting both learning and performance requirements), the incumbent will be able to move into a local lease sales role as a Business Development Manager (BDM).

Essential Functions

  • Support Director of Business Development with developing and executing a strategy to target prospects and generate qualified leads
  • Build a network via phone with key decision makers within assigned territory; Establish and maintain good customer relations, with both internal and external customers
  • On the job training and sales related activities with assigned DBD & BDM (lead generation,, TCO)
  • Actively learning, developing and improving sales skills, building industry knowledge and achieve growth goals via specified training and development plan

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Financial Acumen: Understands and can speak to basic principles of finance (time value of money, reading balance sheets, costs of capital, etc.)
  • Written Communications, Presentation Skills, Verbal Communications: Ability to clearly communicate ideas to individuals and groups (at different levels in the organization) in written and verbal formats
  • Interpersonal Savvy, Peer Relationships: Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
  • Action Oriented, Drives for Results: Ability to work independently and as member of a team
  • Dealing with Ambiguity, Perseverance: Ability to work independently and as member of a team
  • Time Management, Organizing and Priority Setting: Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills: Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Learning on the Fly, Technical Learning: Is good at learning new industry, technology and other information
  • Coachable, and active and relentless learner
  • Relocation: Ability to relocate within assigned Region upon completion of programs


  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Marketing, Finance, or equivalent field
  • Master's degree preferred Business, marketing, finance, or equivalent field
  • Two (2) years or more of sales and/or customer service experience preferred
