Position Summary

Provide administrative and legal support in intellectual property matters such as preparing and organizing various legal documents, and associated legal matters. This includes, but not limited to: patents, trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property litigation.

This position requires cooperating with different company departments, such as R&D, Regulatory, Clinical, Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance and the other team members of the department

  • Key Accountabilities:
  • Working under the supervision of the Company's IP attorney
  • Reviewing docket reporting and assisting with setting priorities
  • Maintaining incoming and outgoing correspondence, internally and externally, and patent office documents
  • Searching USPTO and EPO databases
  • Searching Quested for patent-related information
  • Interfacing with outside counsel
  • Creating and maintaining electronic working files for patent and trademark matters from filing, through prosecution and maintenance
  • Proofreading documents for accuracy, including formal papers for filing with the patent offices
  • Interfacing with Company personnel for collecting, archiving and maintaining documents; and processing formal papers for filing with the patent offices
  • Tracking due dates via matter management and coordinating with the Chief IP Counsel, her designee and staff to meet due dates.
  • Overseeing the execution and legalization of documents for submission in intellectual property matters, includes coordinating with technical group, outside counsel and the Chief IP Counsel or her designee
  • Proofreading and revising documents as needed

    Minimum Skills and Capabilities:

    --- Good oral and written communication skills (English)

    --- Ability to work with individuals of all levels inside and outside the Company

    --- Excellent attention to detail

    --- Excellent organizational skills

    --- Ability to respond to changing priorities

    --- Sit/Stand/Walk 8 hours per day

    --- Light lifting

    Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

    --- Bachelor's degree in Pre-Law or related field, or equivalent experience

    --- 5 years experience in an IP legal department at a company or a law firm

    --- Experience in trademark prosecution and litigation

    --- Experience in docketing and filing U.S. and international patents and trademarks

    --- Understanding of US and foreign patent prosecution

    --- Understanding of US and foreign trademark prosecution

    --- Working knowledge of USPTO rules and procedures

    --- Working knowledge of USPTO and EPO databases

    --- Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, WORD, Excel, Power Point

    --- Proficiency and working knowledge of legal document management software systems, such as iManage, Prolaw or Relativity is a plus

    --- Paralegal Certification is desirable
